Backup & disaster recovery

Managed Proxmox Backup Server – your offsite backup in Austria.

We host and manage your Proxmox Backup Server in our Austrian data centers. Whatever you back up to us from your own site is encrypted on your side with your own key – before the data leaves your premises. In an emergency, every VM backup starts as a cloud VM with one click: fallback operation in minutes instead of hours.

The backup lifecycle

Back up, verify, replicate, restore – all in your hands

Managed Proxmox Backup Server is more than a storage target: the entire backup lifecycle stays with you – around the clock, without a ticket.

Deduplicated, compressed, incremental

Your backups land in content-addressed block storage: identical blocks are stored only once across all snapshots, compressed with zstd. After the first full backup, only what has actually changed goes over the wire.

Verify, prune and garbage collection

Every block carries a SHA-256 checksum; verify jobs recompute it on schedule and prove that your backup is still intact. You control retention through prune rules, and garbage collection reclaims the freed blocks.

Replication in self-service

Your own remotes, sync jobs by pull or push, scheduled as you like. You set up a 3-2-1 strategy and geo-redundancy with a click – and you choose the target freely, including your own company data center.

Restore without a ticket, 24/7

You restore when you need to – without waiting for a ticket: the whole machine, or just single files and directories from a snapshot when only one file is missing.

Bring your own backup

Back up your on-premises Proxmox VE to the myDataCenter.at data center. In an emergency or during a migration, every VM backup starts as a cloud VM with one click – a ready-made disaster-recovery and migration path instead of a project.

How it works

From on-premises to the myDataCenter.at data center – and into the cloud with one click

Three steps from a local backup to a disaster-recovery strategy that holds up.

Back up on premises

You add Managed Proxmox Backup Server as a storage target in your Proxmox VE environment. Your backup jobs keep running as usual – encrypted with your own key, before the data leaves your premises. You can also back up individual Linux servers without Proxmox VE, file-based with the Proxmox Backup Client, straight to your Managed Proxmox Backup Server.

Verify and retain offsite

Verify jobs confirm the integrity of every backup; prune and garbage collection enforce your retention rules. If you want, you also replicate to your own remotes – for 3-2-1 and geo-redundancy.

In an emergency: fallback operation with a one-click restore to the cloud

If your hardware fails, you start any VM backup directly as a cloud VM in our Austrian data centers – fallback operation without a ticket and without moving the data back. The same path carries you through a planned migration.

Bring your own backup

Your backup is also your emergency plan

A classic offsite backup answers one question: will my data survive? Managed Proxmox Backup Server answers the second one too: how quickly do I get back to work? Every VM backup from your Proxmox VE environment can be started as a cloud VM in our Austrian data centers with one click – your fallback operation is running before your own hardware is back on its feet.

That turns the storage target into a ready-made disaster-recovery site – and into a migration path: if you want to move to the cloud anyway, you back up once and start there. The restored VMs run on KVM virtualization with Ceph storage and high availability, without overbooking.

  • Restore as a new cloud VM or in place into the existing server
  • Restart in fallback operation typically takes minutes instead of hours – depending on the size of the backup
  • An emergency solution without a second data center: the fallback site is already standing by
  • Browser console with live preview: you see straight away that the VM is running
  • A natural next step: from the offsite copy to Platform Vienna
How the emergency plan works: a Proxmox cluster or Proxmox Backup Server is backed up encrypted in Austria and can be started in the cloud with one click if it fails

Honest pricing

€25 per TB – from the first to the fiftieth

Backup storage always costs the same here: €25 per TB per month, freely scalable from 1 to 50 TB. And a TB is a real TB of datastore capacity that you size yourself – not a figure derived from the storage you booked, as with the standard backup of the cloud products. No setup fee, no asterisks, cancellable monthly.

Compliance & trust

Backups you can prove – we support you with NIS2

For affected companies, the NISG 2026 (Austrian NIS2 act) turns backup management and disaster recovery into a duty you have to prove. Verify jobs, replication you can schedule and self-service restores produce exactly that kind of evidence – we support you with the implementation (more on our NIS2 page). Frequently asked questions

Managed Proxmox Backup Server in detail

What exactly is Managed Proxmox Backup Server?

A backup server we operate in our Austrian data centers, compatible with Proxmox Backup Server. You add it to your Proxmox VE environment as a backup target; we take care of operation, maintenance and monitoring. You control jobs, retention and restores yourself in the Dashboard.

Can I start every backup as a cloud VM with one click?

The direct start as a cloud VM applies to backups of KVM-based virtual machines. You store, verify and replicate all other backups exactly as usual and restore them into your own environment.

Can I also back up individual Linux servers – without Proxmox VE?

Yes. With the Proxmox Backup Client you back up any Linux host – physical or virtual, and without Proxmox VE too – file-based straight to your Managed Proxmox Backup Server, likewise zero-knowledge encrypted with your own key. That way you cover single servers, directories or databases alongside your Proxmox VE VMs. The one-click start as a cloud VM stays reserved for VM backups; you restore file backups into your own environment.

How much backup storage do I need?

Less than the sum of your full backups suggests: identical blocks are stored only once across all snapshots and compressed on top of that. What drives consumption is not the number of backups, but how much your data changes between two runs and how long you keep it. The first month gives you a figure you can rely on – which is why many start with 1 TB and scale up in TB steps; that never makes it more expensive, the price per TB stays the same.

Do I have to open anything in my firewall?

Nothing inbound. Your backup client opens the connection from the inside out over TLS to your Managed Proxmox Backup Server (default port 8007). So there is no route from us into your network – only one from your network to us.

Can I restore individual files instead of the whole machine?

Yes. From a snapshot you retrieve individual files and directories instead of restoring the complete machine – the most common case in everyday work, when something was deleted by accident. The same goes for the file-based backups of the Proxmox Backup Client.

What happens if I lose my encryption key?

Then your backups are lost for good – for us as well, because zero-knowledge means no second key and no back door. So keep your key file in at least two secure, separate locations.

How quickly am I back online in an emergency?

The restore runs without a ticket, around the clock – typically in minutes instead of hours, depending on the size of the backup. With the one-click start as a cloud VM, moving the data back is dropped entirely: your fallback operation runs in our Austrian data centers while you rebuild your own hardware at your own pace.

Does Managed Proxmox Backup Server help with NIS2?

The NISG 2026 – Austria’s implementation of NIS2 – requires affected companies to ensure business continuity: backup management, disaster recovery and crisis management, and to prove it. Verify jobs, replication you can schedule and self-service restores produce exactly that kind of evidence. We support you with the implementation; nobody can seriously promise you blanket compliance. More on our NIS2 page.

What belongs in an emergency plan – and which parts do you provide?

You write the emergency plan: recovery times, responsibilities, reporting channels and the order in which your systems come back. We deliver the technical emergency solution underneath – verified offsite backups, a recovery test you can run at any time, and the one-click start as a cloud VM for fallback operation. That way every point of your emergency plan has something behind it that you can demonstrate, instead of a declaration of intent.

Where are my backups stored?

Exclusively in our ISO 27001 certified data centers in Austria; your contracting party is an Austrian GmbH with no US parent company. What the data centers bring along technically – dark fiber connectivity, backup power, fire suppression, access control – you can read under About us.

How do I implement a 3-2-1 strategy?

You create your own remotes and schedule sync jobs by pull or push – from Austria into your own company data center, for instance, or into a second data center. The target is yours to choose, and the jobs run automatically on your schedule.

Is there a setup fee or a minimum term?

No. Managed Proxmox Backup Server costs €25 per TB per month, is cancellable monthly and comes without a setup fee – and for 2026 our price stability pledge applies on top.
