Example configurations
Two examples you can check – and your own Platform
Platform Vienna has no package sizes – you set cores, RAM and storage yourself in the configurator. Prices are net and include the mandatory components IPv4 address and VLAN (€5 each); standard backup storage is optional and adds €25 per TB.
Entry level
Your first own cloud: line-of-business application, test system and monitoring side by side
- 4 cores
- 8 GB RAM
- 100 GB SSD
- IPv4 address and VLAN
€46.60 per month
The smallest Platform, and you can check the math: 4 × €4.50 + 8 × €1.70 + 100 × €0.05 + €5 + €5.
Production environment
Several production systems side by side – NVMe for the I/O-heavy ones, SSD for the bulk
- 24 cores
- 96 GB RAM
- 500 GB NVMe
- 2500 GB SSD on top
- IPv4 address and VLAN
€491.20 per month
The same unit prices as the entry level, just more of them: 24 × €4.50 + 96 × €1.70 + 500 × €0.17 + 2500 × €0.05 + €5 + €5.
Your configuration
As your needs grow, you expand with a configuration upgrade – at any time
- 4–256 cores, 8–1024 GB RAM
- SSD or NVMe
- more private networks as needed
Your price fixed before you order
Larger configurations keep scaling linearly: €4.50 per core, €1.70 per GB of RAM. Up to 256 cores and 1024 GB RAM, expandable at any time with a configuration upgrade.
Under the hood
What runs beneath your platform
Every VM is a full virtual machine with its own kernel: KVM full virtualization with CPU support, virtio devices for disk and network. No shared container kernel – and no overcommitment: your cores and your RAM never compete with other tenants’ VMs for compute time.
We keep compute and storage apart: the server does the computing, the data of your VMs lives elsewhere – in the Ceph cluster, stored redundantly across several servers. If the computing server fails, your VM starts on another one and accesses the very same data. Nothing has to be copied or fetched back. That is what “high availability for every VM” means here: for every machine in your cloud, not only above a certain price tier.
And how reliable that is in everyday operation is something we measure and publish openly – you can check it for yourself.
- KVM full virtualization: a separate kernel per VM, virtio for disk and network
- Guests: Linux and Windows (Windows with virtio drivers)
- Ceph storage replicated across several nodes
- Node failure: the VM starts on another node of the cluster
- Cores and RAM firmly allocated, not overcommitted
Technical data
Our platform at a glance
The key figures of your resource pool – to check before you configure.
| Feature | Platform Vienna |
|---|---|
| Virtualization | KVM full virtualization, a separate kernel per VM, virtio devices for disk and network |
| Guest operating systems | Linux from a ready-made OS template, Windows installed from your own ISO |
| Pool limits | 4–256 cores, 8–1024 GB RAM, storage from 100 GB – expandable with a configuration upgrade |
| VMs in the pool | as many as your resources support; we bill the pool, not the individual VM |
| Storage | Ceph, replicated across several nodes – SSD (€0.05 per GB) or NVMe (€0.17 per GB), both usable in parallel |
| High availability | for every VM: a node failure means a restart on another node, the disk stays the same |
| Resource allocation | cores and RAM allocated on a dedicated basis, no overcommitment |
| Network | mandatory components: 1 public IPv4 and 1 VLAN (€5 per month each). On top of that, private SDN networks and firewall rules that you set yourself in the Dashboard |
| Console | noVNC in the browser, live preview in the VM overview – even when the guest system has stopped answering |
| Snapshots | set with one click, rolled back with one click |
| Standard backup | optional add-on, retention of up to 7 days. Restores run in our cloud – as a new VM, in place or as individual files. Billed on the storage you booked for your Platform, €25 per TB/month; beyond that storage the function costs nothing extra |
| Managed Proxmox Backup Server | can be booked in addition, €25 per TB/month – here a real datastore TB that you size yourself. Above all as an offsite target for your own Proxmox VE on your premises, encrypted there with your own key before the data leaves your premises (zero-knowledge). You control retention, verify and replication yourself |
| Migrating in | start existing Proxmox VE backups (KVM) as a cloud VM with one click – or install fresh from a template/ISO |
| Location & framework | ISO 27001 certified data centers in Austria, data including backups exclusively in Austria |
| Billing | linear per core, GB of RAM and GB of storage – no setup fee, cancellable monthly |
All prices are net per month. If you need only a single VM instead of a pool, Server Vienna is the same foundation in a smaller size.
How to start
Three steps to your own cloud
Size your resources
Choose cores (4–256), RAM (8–1024 GB) and storage in the configurator. The final price appears live next to it – calculated linearly, with no hidden items.
Order
No setup fee, cancellable monthly. With your order you receive access to your Dashboard.
Create VMs
Create your first VMs from a template or your own ISO, in your private networks. As your needs grow, you expand your Platform with a configuration upgrade – at any time.
Who it is for
From the first VM to an entire server landscape
For company IT that needs a pool of its own instead of shared packages.
ERP & databases
Business-critical systems run highly available on Ceph storage, with reserved resources instead of overcommitment – and backup with restore without a ticket.
File servers & internal services
Your company data stays exclusively in Austria – in the backup as well. Private SDN networks cleanly separate internal services from the internet.
Line-of-business applications
Industry software with particular requirements: ready-made OS templates, ISO installation, firewall rules and network architecture to your specifications.
Test & staging environments
Clone a VM, take a snapshot, try things out, throw it away – possible in your cloud at any time, without every test VM costing extra.
Frequently asked questions
Questions about Platform Vienna
How do I migrate existing VMs to Platform Vienna?
The most direct route: you back up your existing Proxmox VE environment (KVM VMs) to our Managed Proxmox Backup Server and start those backups as cloud instances with one click. Alternatively you install fresh from a template or your own ISO. Your personal contact supports you with the planning.
Can I run Windows servers?
Yes, KVM virtualization runs Windows systems just as well as Linux ones. You install Windows from your own ISO – ready-made OS templates are available for the common Linux distributions. For disk and network you add the virtio drivers under Windows – the machine then runs with paravirtualized devices instead of emulated hardware. Questions about Windows licensing are best clarified with us in advance.
Which networks and IP addresses do I get?
Every Platform comes with one public IPv4 address and one VLAN as mandatory components (€5 per month each). Within it you segment your infrastructure into your own private SDN networks – database separated from application separated from the internet – and set the firewall rules yourself in the Dashboard. Further public IPv4 addresses can be booked as you need them.
What does an additional VM cost?
Nothing extra. We bill the resources of your pool – cores, RAM and storage. How many VMs you run in it is your decision.
How do I expand my Platform?
With a configuration upgrade directly in the customer area: from 4 to 256 cores and from 8 to 1024 GB RAM, priced linearly. From the upgrade onwards you pay for exactly the new resources – nothing else changes.
How does the backup work?
The standard backup is an optional add-on. When it is active, we back up your cloud VMs and keep them for up to 7 days. Restores run in our cloud, and you run them yourself – around the clock, without a ticket: as a new cloud VM, in place into the existing server or as individual files from a snapshot. That typically takes minutes rather than hours, depending on the size of the backup. Billing follows the storage you booked for your Platform, €25 per TB and month – the backup and restore function itself costs nothing extra.
How does that differ from the Managed Proxmox Backup Server?
They are two different things – and the fact that both cost €25 per TB and month makes them easy to confuse. The reference quantity differs as well: with the standard backup the TB follow the storage you booked for your pool, with the Managed Proxmox Backup Server 1 TB is a real datastore TB that you size yourself. The standard backup is an optional add-on, keeps your cloud VMs for up to 7 days and restores them in our cloud. The Managed Proxmox Backup Server is your own datastore, with retention, verify and replication in your hands – it plays to its real strength when you back up your Proxmox VE environment from your own premises to us: then the data is encrypted at your site, with your key, before it leaves your premises. This zero-knowledge encryption applies to backups from your premises, not to the standard backup of your cloud VMs. Both can be booked independently of each other and complement one another.
What availability can I expect – and what happens if a node fails?
The disks of your VMs do not sit in the machine that runs them, but on a Ceph cluster replicated across several nodes. If a node fails, the affected VM starts on another node – on the same disk, with no data that has to be copied back. That applies to all of your VMs, not only above a certain price tier. Instead of a marketing number we show you our availability live: on the public status page, measured from our own monitoring history.
